Motorists were treated a Boost, as the price of petrol in the United Kingdom has fallen for the biggest margin for almost five years, the AA said.

According to the motoring group, the average price of petrol fell by 5.49 p per litre between mid-September and mid-October, taking the average price of gasoline to 132.16 p per litre.

This is the largest monthly fall since November 2008, when prices fell from 11.5 p per litre.

While the average price of petrol is now 132.16 p per litre, diesel is equal to 139.2 p per litre, following a fall during the last month of only 3.3 p per litre.

AA said the price drop would save an average of £2,72 when a small petrol pump petrol, but lived with a sedan would save an average of £3,84 on the cost of their vehicle.

The AA said two car families could save as much as £ 10 a month on fuel.

Northern Ireland has the most expensive petrol currently region, with fuel costing 132.9 p per litre, while the cheapest areas are London, the North, Yorkshire and Humberside where petrol is 131.9 p per litre, according to the AA.

Edmund King, the AA President, said: "one more of £2,50-a-tank cut in gasoline costs for families is a dramatic improvement. But going into winter, with cars using more fuel, the timing couldn't be better. "

AA said the price drop is a drop in the wholesale price of fuel, reinforced by supermarkets like Asda and Sainsbury passing on the reduction for motorists.
